Thistle Hill Academy is looking for a creative and innovative ECT teacher who is willing to embrace the use of technology in the classroom to enhance learning. This position would start in September 2025.

We need someone who is open to new ideas and willing to support our vision to transform the standardised model of education to a model that allows for improved interactions and strengthened relationships, providing our children with opportunities for self-directed learning.

We aim to nurture a community of learners who challenge thinking, where our staff are empowered to take risks and develop their practice to meet the needs of an evolving school system, free from traditional restrictions and ideologies.

We want teachers who:

  • Recognise that our current education system needs to radically change to better prepare our young people for the 21st century
  • Want to move away from passive learning and towards interactive teaching methods that promote critical and individual thinking
  • Will utilise the latest technology to deliver personalised learning accessible to all children, regardless of language skills, reading ability, or learning challenges
  • Want to collaborate with other staff as a community of learners that challenge traditional thinking
  • Seek to develop their own practice to meet the needs of an evolving school system
  • Aim to develop children as lifelong, curious learners
  • Desire to build strong relationships with children that facilitate their learning
  • Want to teach in enabling environments that promote flexibility, collaboration, and independence

We, at the Stour Academy Trust, value the dedication of our staff, both individually and as a team, in providing outstanding education and improving children's life chances. Our staff are committed, passionate, and go the extra mile to drive standards in our pursuit of excellence.

Some of our pledges to teachers include:

  • An additional paid day off per academic year after two years of service
  • No expectation to respond to emails after 6:00 pm or at weekends
  • Free confidential counselling
  • Less emphasis on lengthy lesson plans, focusing instead on 'live marking' and utilising TAs to reduce outside-of-classroom marking
  • A maximum of six scheduled meetings per term

We offer experienced teachers:

  • Rapid career progression
  • Great professional development opportunities
  • Opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities

We support ECTs with:

  • Support from experienced mentors
  • Frequent opportunities to observe best practices within the Trust
  • Focused training schedules

Our school and staff are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. This position is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service. References will be requested before interviews, with at least one from your most recent employer. Candidates invited for interview must bring photo ID (a valid driving licence or passport).
