This is more than just a job. It’s a journey to becoming a teacher, and we’re here to guide and support you every step of the way.

Why Choose Teaching?

Teaching is not just a career—it’s a calling. At Herne Bay High, we believe that education shapes futures and transforms lives. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Inspire Young Minds: Share your passion and knowledge, sparking curiosity and a love for learning in students.

What We Offer: A Path to Becoming a Teacher

This isn’t just another job—it’s a structured pathway to becoming a qualified teacher. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Get Started as a Cover Supervisor

  • Duration: 8–10 weeks working as a cover supervisor, gaining hands‑on classroom experience.
  • Hourly Rate: Over £13 per hour.
  • Role: You’ll oversee lessons, manage classroom behaviour, and support students as you get a taste of what teaching is all about.

Step 2: Become an Unqualified Teacher

  • After Assessment: Upon successful assessment, you’ll transition into the role of an Unqualified Teacher at the school with a starting salary of £27,000 plus.
  • Key Responsibilities: Plan, deliver lessons, and continue to develop your teaching skills under the mentorship of experienced educators.

Step 3: Move into a Teaching Programme

  • In September 2026, you’ll begin a full teaching programme, where you’ll receive continued support and development to help you gain your teaching qualification, and QTS status.

Why Herne Bay High?

  • Comprehensive Training: Our structured training programme equips you with the skills, strategies, and confidence you need to thrive in the classroom.
  • Supportive Mentorship: You’ll be guided by a team of experienced educators who are passionate about your success.
  • Flexible Pathways: Whether you’re starting fresh or looking to build on previous experience, we’ll tailor your journey to suit your needs and career goals.
  • Professional Development: We prioritise your growth, offering workshops, resources, and opportunities to stay at the cutting edge of teaching practices.

Who Are We Looking For?

We want graduates who are ready to take the next step in their teaching journey. Whether you’ve always known you want to teach, or you’re considering it and want hands‑on experience before diving in, we want to hear from you.

Ideal candidates will be:
