We are recruiting for an Environmental Enforcement Officer to join our Environmental Enforcement Team. This frontline role is responsible for responding rapidly to incidents of environmental concern, undertaking investigations, and taking enforcement action to protect and improve Sandwell's local environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond rapidly to reports of environmental concern from residents, elected members, senior managers, and partners.
- Assess incidents and determine the most appropriate course of action, including the issuance of Fixed Penalty Notices or progressing to prosecution.
- Lead on the preparation of prosecution files, ensuring they meet all evidential and legal requirements.
- Interpret and implement relevant legislation, codes of practice, and council policies.
- Conduct on-site inspections, prepare detailed reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Deliver advice and guidance to residents and businesses on compliance with environmental legislation.
- Support service‑wide awareness campaigns and education initiatives aimed at reducing environmental offences.
- Attend meetings, contribute to team discussions, and participate in training and professional development.
This is a varied and challenging role that requires decision‑making, communication skills, and a commitment to high‑quality service delivery whilst maintaining a high caseload.
