Sandwell Council is seeking an experienced, high‑performing Consultant in Public Health to join our senior Public Health leadership team at a pivotal time for health improvement across the borough. This is a 12‑month fixed‑term role, during which you will focus on Children and Young People (0–19) and all‑age Mental Health. You will support delivery of key priorities within the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026–2031 and lead large‑scale recommissioning and strategy refresh activity.

About the role

  • Provide strategic public health leadership across the health improvement portfolio
  • Lead key programmes including 0–19s recommissioning and the refresh of the Mental Health Strategy
  • Advise on the health impact of policies across the Council and partner organisations
  • Work closely with the Director of Public Health to shape priorities and influence system‑wide decision‑making
  • Manage and monitor budgets within your portfolio, ensuring value for money
  • Lead, motivate and develop staff, promoting a culture of continuous improvement
  • Strengthen partnerships across health, social care, education, housing and the voluntary sector

About you

  • Specialist professional registration in Public Health (or equivalent)
  • Senior‑level experience within local government or the health system
  • A strong understanding of population health, health inequalities and system leadership
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence at senior level
  • Proven experience leading complex programmes and inspiring positive change
  • A clear understanding of the link between economic success and improved health outcomes
