Sandwell Council’s Fleet Division is seeking an experienced Vehicle Technician to join its team on a full-time, permanent basis.
As a Vehicle Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Sandwell MBC’s diverse fleet. Based at our central depot, you’ll maintain a wide range of vehicles and equipment that support essential in-house and external services such as housing repairs, grounds maintenance, highways operations, household waste collections, and street cleansing.
- Carry out scheduled servicing, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of vehicles and plant equipment, including engines, transmissions, suspension, brakes, chassis, and electrical systems.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT testing in accordance with DVSA standards and regulations.
- Diagnose and rectify faults across engine management, fuel, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems using advanced diagnostic equipment.
- Undertake welding, fabrication, and bodywork repairs within workshop capabilities.
- Support, mentor, and assist in the training and development of apprentices and junior team members.
Level 3 NVQ Automotive Maintenance and Repair
LGV Class 2 Category C Licence – Candidates will be accepted with a category B licence and provided training in order to obtain the required category C licence in 12 months.
Experience of conducting maintenance, inspection, repair, and test services for a diverse fleet including vehicles such as light vehicle vans, tippers, small plant machines, sweepers, and large refuse vehicles.
