We are looking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic, and proactive Pastoral Mentor to join our Pastoral team on a full time, permanent basis working 40 week term time only. This role plays a key part in supporting our students to achieve their full potential. We require a driven individual with the coaching ability to mentor and support 16 to 18-year-old students to achieve and develop academically and emotionally. You will act as a trusted point of contact, helping learners build the confidence and resilience they need to improve their attendance, retention, and behaviour. Key Responsibilities
- Provide personalised mentoring to students and small groups, setting clear goals and tracking progress.
- Work with Programme Achievement Managers to support students who may be struggling in their studies.
- Use college systems to monitor attendance, offer guidance, and encourage students to take ownership of their attendanceβespecially in English and maths classes.
- Inspire and motivate learners to succeed while helping them build resilience and accountability.
- Maintain detailed records of student meetings, contracts, and progress using assessment tools.
- Spot student needs early, foster a positive and respectful environment, and refer concerns to safeguarding or specialist services when needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Hold a minimum Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject.
- Hold a mentor qualification or be prepared to train for one.
- Hold a minimum Level 2 qualification in Maths and English.
- Experience of mentoring young learners.
- Experience of supporting learners in an educational environment (desirable).
- Experience of working within a team.
- Experience of working to pressure and tight deadlines.
