Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Lecturer to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by delivering high-quality teaching to adult learners and contributing to their academic and personal development within a supportive and dynamic Further Education environment. The role includes a regular commitment to evening teaching, supporting flexible access to learning for our adult students.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, inspirational teaching and facilitate access to learning, primarily for adult learners. Provide teaching and assessment in line with awarding body requirements to support achievement. Deliver a teaching timetable in line with the agreed contract, including two evening sessions per week. Complete essential administrative duties to support programme delivery, including schemes of work and assessments. Support adult learners in achieving their goals through progress tracking, reviews, and maintaining accurate records. Contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching, learning, and the overall learner experience at Sandwell College, with a focus on attendance, retention, achievement, progression, and value-added outcomes. The role may also involve working with external agencies, college partners, and local employers to meet learners’ diverse needs.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Hold a relevant degree or possess substantial equivalent experience in English language, along with a Certificate in Education or Level 5 teaching qualification. Have experience in delivering and assessing Functional Skills and GCSE English Language, ideally within the FE sector. Demonstrate a proven track record of raising achievement in English language skills among a diverse range of learners. Show experience in preparing and evaluating appropriate teaching and learning materials.

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£30,583 – £46,263), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

Accepted Qualifications:

  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£25,611 – £28,817).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:

  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
