Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality teaching and assessment in fabrication, welding, and related engineering disciplines.
  • Inspire and support students to gain technical skills and confidence for their future careers.
  • Contribute to course planning and development and maintain high standards of delivery and student support across engineering programmes.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

  • Strong background in fabrication and welding within the engineering sector.
  • Hands-on industry experience with current techniques and standards (e.g., MIG, TIG, MMA welding).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A recognised teaching qualification at Level 5 or above – or a willingness to work towards this.

You’ll bring industry insight into the classroom, helping students gain practical and relevant skills for their future careers.

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£30,583 – £46,263), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£25,611 – £28,817).

Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:

  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
