At Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, we have a new and exciting opportunity within our well established Health Visiting Service. We are looking for innovative Registered NMC Nurses or Midwives with an interest in health visiting to work as a Healthy Child Practitioner to deliver a core programme to children young people and families in SWB NHS Trust. This is a secondment/fixed term position to introduce the successful candidates to the role of the Health Visitor, with the opportunity to apply for the fully funded Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) Specialist Community Public Health Nurse in Health Visiting. The HCP will work within the Health Visiting Service as part of the Acute and Community Paediatric Directorate. They will support and deliver the Universal Children\’s services in line with the HCP 0-5 years.

Main duties of the job

Day to day relationship will be with other members of Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, Health Visitors, Community Nursery Nurses, Administration Officers, patients, carers and multi-agency professionals.

Training and evaluation will be provided to enable the individual to develop the competence to function effectively within this role and will have exposure to the mandated contacts of a Health Visitor in order to help them to progress onto the Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) SCPHN in Health Visiting.

Mandatory contacts include;

  • Antenatal visits
  • 6-8 week contact

Other duties to include;

  • Baby/Child weight reviews
  • Health promotion and public health advice
  • Maternal mental health support
  • Support babies/children and their families with concerns or medical conditions
  • Safeguarding
  • Multi agency working

As a Healthy Child Practitioner within Sandwell & West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWB) you will work within corporate teams who are supported by Health Visitors, Community Nursery Nurses, a Health Visitor Contact Centre and are led and managed by Health Visitor Team Leaders and Clinical Lead for Health Visiting.

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English
  • To have relevant Nursing/ Midwifery Degree
  • Active registration as a nurse or midwife on the NMC register
  • Evidence of recent Continuing Professional Development
  • To have Practice Supervisor or equivalent

Experience

  • Experience relevant to post
  • Audit/evaluation/research
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Experience relevant to post working with 0-5 years
  • Recent post Registered Nurse experience
