Sandvik is a global, high-tech, engineering group providing solutions that enhance productivity, profitability and sustainability for the manufacturing, mining, and infrastructure industries. In our Additive Manufacturing business, we offer the widest alloy range of metal powders on the market, under the world-renowned Osprey® brand.
We’re looking for a hands‑on Project Engineer to lead a funded Innovate UK project to design, implement, and validate an anti‑satelliting system for our gas atomisation process used in metal powder production. The Project Engineer will own the project lifecycle – from requirements and design, through instrumentation and trials, to reporting and successful delivery – improving powder morphology, process stability, and yield.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Project Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in project engineering and project management in a production or R&D environment. A mechanical bias with an understanding of fluid dynamics, thermal processes and mechanical equipment design would be beneficial. You must have the proven ability to run safe, structured process trials and produce clear technical documentation. Hands‑on experience with instrumentation and controls selection, installation and commissioning, alongside the ability to collect and analyse data is a must. Other skills and experiences that would be of advantage would be experience with CFD modelling, experience delivering grant‑funded projects, working with process safety and a knowledge of gas atomisation, metal powders and power characterisation.
This role is based at our site situated in Neath, South Wales, and is a fixed term contract for 12 months. There is the option to work up to 1 day per week remotely.
Important responsibilities include:
- Lead the Innovate UK project plan: scope, milestones, risks, and deliverables.
- Design & implement an anti‑satelliting solution for gas atomisation (concept > prototype > validation).
- Specify, install, and commission instrumentation & control (e.g., flow/pressure/temperature, high‑speed data capture, laser/optical diagnostics where appropriate).
- Plan and run process trials; collect and analyse process & product data to validate performance.
- Coordinate equipment installation, production trials, and contractor activities.
- Produce technical reports (internal and for Innovate UK compliance), including KPIs, results, CAPEX/OPEX implications, and safety documentation.
- Collaborate with Technical and Engineering teams; provide day‑to‑day support as needed.
- Ensure adherence to HSE, quality, and governance standards.
Be unique, we like it that way! We want to attract, develop and maintain the best people from all walks of life, and so we embrace a diverse workforce. We believe that diversity of experience, perspective and background leads to a better environment for our employees, our business and our customers.
