Role: Service Designer

Rate: Β£450 p/d (Via Umbrella)

Location: Remote (UK Based)

Duration: 3 – 6 months

We\’re working with a Government organisation seeking an experienced Service Designer to drive digital transformation within public services. You\’ll apply the GDS Service Standard to deliver user-centric, efficient, and accessible services that meet user needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the GDS Service Standard and prepare services for formal GDS assessments.
  • Lead the creation and iteration of comprehensive service blueprints and ecosystem maps, integrating user needs with back-end policy and operations.
  • Plan, conduct, and analyse comprehensive user research to deeply understand citizen needs and pain points across service journeys.
  • Use government-specific tools, including the GOV.UK Prototyping Kit, to rapidly create, test, and validate service concepts.
  • Work collaboratively in an Agile environment with Policy Analysts, Product Managers, and Technologists to ensure viable service delivery.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience as a Service Designer within a public sector or government-facing environment.
  • Deep, practical experience applying and adhering to the Government Digital Service (GDS) Service Standard.
  • Hands-on experience using the GOV.UK Prototyping Kit or a similar government design system.
  • Expert knowledge and practical experience in creating and iterating detailed service blueprints and journey maps.
  • Expertise in planning, executing, and synthesizing user research activities into actionable design insights.
  • Demonstrable experience working within Agile and Lean methodologies.
