Director of Technology / Technology Director / Digital Director / Digital Transformation Director – Financial Services / FinTech / Insurance / Wealth / Pensions – Essential Summary: In an initial brief summary to provide context, this is a technically centric role, where you will be leading a team of Architecture specialists across Solution, Data, Platform specialists. This is a strategic role, where you will act as an advisor to their end clients at CxO / Senior level around Digital and Technology. We are looking for someone with outstanding communication skills, that can help their clients chose the right Digital & Technology solutions, how to implement them, driving the delivery of transformation and innovation. As you can imagine, there is a level of commercial acumen required for this as well. I must emphasise, culture fit for the business is absolutely critical for this position. Overview of the role: Lead, develop, and support a team of 10-20 Technology specialists, predominantly in the Architecture domain fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture. Define and execute the strategic vision and annual roadmap for the Technology function, ensuring alignment with the broader business strategy. Own and manage the Digital Technology function’s performance, including financial targets, team utilisation, and operational efficiency. Contribute to the delivery of strategic technology initiatives for a diverse range of Financial Services clients, particularly through high-level technical input and stakeholder engagement. Collaborate across the business to shape and deliver impactful digital technology solutions, aligning with client needs and organisational priorities. Oversee the planning and delivery of Digital Technology projects, ensuring high standards of quality, timeliness, and cost control. Champion the development and refinement of digital methods, tools, and assets that can be reused across the business. Stay ahead of technology trends and translate relevant innovations into practical opportunities for the business and its clients. Act as a visible and credible ambassador for the Digital Technology function at events, in thought leadership, and across industry forums. Work closely with the Operations Director to ensure the right people are assigned to the right projects and resource needs are proactively managed. Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and career development initiatives to ensure the team continues to grow and evolve with business needs. Contribute actively to the company’s senior leadership team, playing a key role in shaping the future direction and growth of the business. Key Responsibilities: Define and execute the strategic direction for the domain, shaping propositions and ensuring alignment with broader business goals. Build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders and C-suite executives. Identify and drive new business opportunities, contributing to sustained growth. Take full ownership of the Digital Technology function, including responsibility for financial performance (revenue, cost, and profitability). Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing team, with full line management and professional development responsibilities. Lead the shaping, estimation, and winning of new initiatives and programmes of work. Oversee or lead the successful delivery of strategic projects, ensuring a consistent, structured approach to delivery. Manage key client stakeholders, resolve challenges, and uphold a strong reputation for quality and impact. Develop and publish thought leadership content to position the business as a trusted voice in the domain. Drive the creation and evolution of domain-specific frameworks, assets, and knowledge resources. Contribute actively to the broader leadership team, supporting the growth and strategic direction of the organisation, reporting directly to the CEO. Experience and Skills Required: Deep technical expertise and enthusiasm in the Digital Technology domain, with a strong track record of delivering meaningful and impactful technology change. With a core focus on Software / Application / Technology Architecture and change. This will include modern architecture platforms such as Microservices, Event Driven, SOA, Headless, etc. Proven experience working with senior executives and stakeholders to shape and deliver impactful solutions. Strong network within the industry and a demonstrable history of successful business development. Extensive experience in building, managing, and mentoring high-performing teams. Commercially astute, with experience in scoping, pricing, and managing financials of projects or domain areas. Broad understanding of business transformation and technology change. Self-motivated and passionate about delivering value and making a measurable difference. Typically 10-20+ years of relevant experience, predominantly within the Financial Services sector
