A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Underwriter to strengthen its Life and Pensions Administration team. This role is pivotal in assessing customer applications across multiple product types, ensuring fair, accurate decisions and delivering excellent customer outcomes. You will act as a trusted expert in medical underwriting, combining strong communication skills with compliance and accuracy to support both customers and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess customer applications and medical information within approved authority limits
- Communicate clearly with customers and third parties, including vulnerable customers, both verbally and in writing
- Make outbound calls to gather medical details and interpret them alongside policy terms and conditions
- Work efficiently to support service levels and performance metrics
- Manage Conduct Risk and Consumer Duty requirements to ensure positive customer outcomes
- Support audits, post-issue accuracy checks, and licensing processes
- Share knowledge and expertise to support less experienced team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
Skills & Experience
- Previous medical underwriting experience preferred
- Strong telephone skills, including questioning techniques and managing customer expectations
- Ability to interpret complex medical information and apply sound judgment
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, FCA principles, and Consumer Duty requirements
- Competence in underwriting systems, databases, and Microsoft Office applications
- Proactive problem-solving skills with adaptability to changing circumstances
- Self-motivation with a drive for continuous learning and professional development
