We're looking for an experienced SC Cleared Node.js Developer to join a government department on a fully remote basis (UK only). This contract is paying £560 per day (Inside IR35) and will run initially until November, with the possibility of extension.
You'll be working on key public services, helping translate user needs into scalable, secure systems while contributing to modern, cloud-based platforms.
What you'll be doing:
- Translating business and user requirements into effective technical designs
- Building APIs and backend services using Node.js (REST, OpenAPI)
- Developing user-focused services, putting accessibility and usability first
- Writing clean, reusable, and maintainable code
- Working with shared/common government tech stacks (Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis)
- Investigating and resolving technical issues across the stack
- Applying secure development practices, including OWASP principles and vulnerability management
- Collaborating with stakeholders and communicating technical concepts clearly
Tech stack includes:
- Node.js, HAPI (web framework)
- API development (REST, OpenAPI)
- PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis
- Jest and Lab for testing
- Git for source control
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Docker, Kubernetes, ECS
- CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Jira and Azure DevOps for workflow management
What we're looking for:
- Active SC Clearance (essential)
- Strong experience with Node.js development in production environments
- Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience breaking down work, refining backlog items, and defining acceptance criteria
- Good understanding of clean coding principles and managing technical debt
- Knowledge of software architecture principles (layered design, microservices, separation of concerns)
- A user-focused mindset with experience building accessible digital services
