Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Linux KVM and Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM)
- Proven track record producing HLD and LLD documentation
- Deep understanding of the KVM stack, including qemu-kvm, libvirt, and VDSM
- Strong Linux administration and platform hardening experience
- Experience designing large-scale virtualisation platforms
- Knowledge of storage technologies such as NFS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel
- Knowledge of networking concepts including VLANs, bonding, and bridging
- Experience with high availability, disaster recovery, live migration, and VM lifecycle management
- Automation skills, such as Bash, Python, Ansible, and APIs
- Experience working in secure or regulated environments
- Desirable: experience with oVirt and self-hosted engine deployments
- Desirable: migration experience from legacy hypervisors
- Desirable: exposure to Oracle database or middleware platforms
Responsibilities
- Act as our SME for Oracle Linux KVM and Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM)
- Own architecture and design across virtualisation platforms, including clusters, hosts, and networking
- Produce high-quality HLD and LLD documentation covering architecture, security, and operational models
- Lead the build, configuration, and deployment of KVM/OLVM environments
- Define standards across security hardening, patching, monitoring, and resilience
- Design and implement high availability, disaster recovery, and live migration solutions
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure integration and supportability
- Support governance, assurance, and technical design reviews
- Drive implementation, migration, and operational readiness planning

We are hiring an Oracle Systems Engineer for a 12-month contract based in Farnborough, with a hybrid working pattern of 1–3 days onsite per week. This is a senior, hands-on role focused on leading the end-to-end design, build, and delivery of enterprise virtualisation platforms in secure, highly regulated environments. The contract is inside IR35 at £630 per day, with 37.5 hours per week. Active SC clearance is required, with NPPV3 preferred or a willingness to undergo it.
