The Opportunity
We're supporting a major UK retail organisation undergoing significant digital transformation across its e-commerce and customer experience platforms. They are looking for an experienced Senior Frontend Engineer to help deliver scalable, high-performance web applications and Progressive Web Apps (PWA) used by millions of customers. You'll work within agile product teams alongside Product Managers, UX Designers, Architects, Backend Engineers and QA specialists to build and enhance customer-facing digital experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain modern frontend applications using React and TypeScript
- Deliver scalable, maintainable and high-performing web solutions
- Collaborate with product and UX teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Drive frontend engineering best practices across performance, accessibility and security
- Lead code reviews and contribute to technical decision-making
- Implement automated testing and CI/CD practices
- Optimise customer journeys across search, browse, basket and checkout experiences
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within agile delivery teams
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience with React
- Expert knowledge of TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+)
- Experience building and maintaining Progressive Web Apps (PWAs)
- Strong understanding of HTML5, CSS3 and SCSS
- Responsive and mobile-first development experience
- REST API and/or GraphQL integration experience
- Testing experience using tools such as Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress or Playwright
- Experience working with Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong knowledge of frontend performance optimisation and Core Web Vitals
- Experience delivering accessible applications aligned to WCAG standards
Desirable Experience
- Large-scale e-commerce or retail platforms

- Azure cloud environments
- Personalisation, experimentation or A/B testing platforms
