You'll be working on key public services, helping translate user needs into scalable, secure systems while contributing to modern, cloud-based platforms.

What you'll be doing:

  • Translating business and user requirements into effective technical designs
  • Building APIs and backend services using Node.js (REST, OpenAPI)
  • Developing user-focused services, putting accessibility and usability first
  • Writing clean, reusable, and maintainable code
  • Working with shared/common government tech stacks (Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis)
  • Investigating and resolving technical issues across the stack
  • Applying secure development practices, including OWASP principles and vulnerability management
  • Collaborating with stakeholders and communicating technical concepts clearly

Tech stack includes:

  • Node.js, HAPI (web framework)

  • PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis
  • Jest and Lab for testing
  • Git for source control

What we're looking for:

  • Active SC Clearance (essential)
  • Strong experience with Node.js development in production environments
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience breaking down work, refining backlog items, and defining acceptance criteria
  • Good understanding of clean coding principles and managing technical debt
  • Knowledge of software architecture principles (layered design, microservices, separation of concerns)
  • A user-focused mindset with experience building accessible digital services

This is a strong opportunity to contribute to a high-impact government programme, with flexibility to work fully remotely and potential for extension beyond the initial term.
