We're supporting a well-established technology organisation in their search for an AWS Support Engineer to join their Managed Services Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong AWS operational support experience who enjoys working within production environments, troubleshooting critical incidents, and maintaining secure, high-availability cloud platforms. The role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel to UK offices when required.

The Role

You'll play a key role in supporting and maintaining AWS-hosted production environments, ensuring operational stability, security, and performance across customer-facing services. Working within a collaborative Managed Services function, you'll be involved in incident response, platform maintenance, monitoring, operational improvements, and change management activities across cloud infrastructure environments. This position would suit someone who enjoys a mix of operational support, cloud engineering, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement within a fast-paced service-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • AWS Operations
    • Support and maintain AWS production environments within a managed services setting
    • Carry out routine maintenance including patching, upgrades, backups, certificate renewals, and capacity management
    • Ensure cloud platforms remain secure, stable, and highly available
    • Participate in an on-call escalation rota when required
  • Incident & Problem Management
    • Respond to operational incidents and service disruptions
    • Troubleshoot and restore services within agreed SLAs
    • Produce root cause analysis documentation and implement preventative measures
  • Monitoring & Operational Readiness
    • Maintain and improve monitoring and alerting across AWS environments
    • Develop and maintain operational runbooks and support documentation
    • Ensure alerting and escalation processes are effective and actionable
  • Change & Release Management
    • Support infrastructure and platform changes in line with operational best practice
    • Assist with release validation, rollback planning, and operational readiness activities
    • Contribute to change reviews and risk assessments
  • Security & Compliance
    • Support secure operation of AWS environments in line with internal governance standards
    • Assist with vulnerability remediation and security improvements
    • Support IAM best practices, logging, encryption, and access management controls

Skills & Experience Required

  • Hands-on experience supporting AWS production environments
  • Strong understanding of AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, EKS and Elasticache
  • Previous experience in a DevOps, Cloud Support, Systems Administration or similar role
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation or Ansible
  • Strong troubleshooting and incident management skills
  • Solid Linux and networking fundamentals
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes environments
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus or similar
  • Experience working within SLA-driven managed service environments
