A growing international insurance business is seeking a Head of Compliance to lead compliance activities across its UK and European operations. This is a broad and hands-on leadership role supporting a group operating across retail insurance broking, wholesale broking and delegated authority/MGA environments. Acting as the sole dedicated compliance resource for the business, the successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership whilst remaining actively involved in day-to-day compliance activity. The position offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders, responsibility for multiple regulated entities and a clear opportunity to shape the future compliance framework of a growing international organisation.
The Role
- Acting as the primary compliance lead across UK and European operations.
- Leading the ongoing development and enhancement of compliance policies, procedures and governance frameworks.
- Interpreting and implementing FCA requirements, including Consumer Duty, SMCR, conduct and financial crime regulations.
- Supporting compliance across European operations, including cross-border regulatory matters and local regulatory requirements.
- Managing compliance monitoring activity, including file reviews, conduct monitoring, delegated authority oversight and remediation activity.
- Reviewing insurer and client agreements, including TOBAs, from a regulatory perspective.
- Overseeing GDPR, data protection and records management obligations.
- Managing sanctions, AML, PEP screening and wider financial crime controls.
- Producing compliance reporting, MI and risk updates for senior leadership and Board-level stakeholders.
- Delivering compliance training and promoting a strong culture of regulatory awareness throughout the business.
- Acting as the key contact for regulators, audits and regulatory reviews.
The role requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on delivery. This is not a large compliance function and therefore would suit someone comfortable operating at both Board level and in the detail.
About You
- At least 5 years' compliance experience within the insurance sector.
- Essential experience gained within a retail insurance broking environment.
- Experience operating within FCA-regulated businesses.
- Strong knowledge of Consumer Duty, SMCR, conduct risk and financial crime requirements.
- Exposure to European insurance regulatory frameworks and/or cross-border insurance operations.
- Experience producing Board-level reporting and management information.
- Knowledge of delegated authority, MGA or Coverholder arrangements would be advantageous.
- Cert CII or equivalent professional qualifications.
- The ability to operate independently and take ownership of the entire compliance function.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
