Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tableau Developer to support a central government programme as it transitions to more technically sophisticated BI and data analytics solutions. The engagement is project-based and outcome-focused, providing the opportunity to take ownership of dashboards, reporting pipelines, and analytics delivery across a secure, highly regulated environment. This is a hands-on role, working closely with existing Data Engineers, delivery leads, and stakeholders to deliver robust, insightful, and compliant Tableau solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain Tableau dashboards, visualisations, and reports
- Translate business requirements into efficient, scalable, and visually effective BI solutions
- Collaborate with data engineers to integrate dashboards with secure data sources and pipelines
- Ensure best practices in data visualisation, performance optimisation, and usability
- Implement security, compliance, and governance standards in all Tableau workbooks and dashboards
- Develop reusable reporting templates and documentation for internal teams
- Provide training and guidance to business users on Tableau usage and analytics
- Support agile delivery, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and incremental delivery
- Communicate technical decisions, progress, and trade-offs to senior stakeholders
Essential qualifications and experience
- Active SC and NPPV3 clearance (both required)
- Proven experience as a Tableau Developer delivering complex dashboards and BI solutions
- Strong hands-on experience with: Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Tableau Online, Data blending, calculated fields, parameters, sets, and LOD expressions
- Optimising dashboards for performance and usability
- Solid SQL skills for querying relational and cloud-based data sources
- Experience integrating Tableau with secure or regulated environments
- Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance best practices
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
Nice to Have
- Experience with Python or R for analytics or data transformation
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Snowflake
- Knowledge of BI automation and CI/CD pipelines for Tableau content
- Experience mentoring or training business users in Tableau
- Exposure to other visualization or analytics tools (Power BI, Looker, Qlik)
