Overview
We are seeking an experienced Collaborative Tooling Engineer to support a high‑profile MOD programme, focused on designing, maintaining, and optimising collaboration platforms across the Atlassian Suite, particularly Jira and Confluence. The role suits someone who has deep hands‑on experience administering Atlassian tools within secure or complex environments, and who can support engineering teams, delivery squads, and senior stakeholders with reliable, well‑governed collaboration solutions. This position offers remote working with planned fortnightly site visits to Corsham.
Key Responsibilities
- Atlassian Platform Ownership
- Administer, configure, and maintain Jira, Confluence, and related Atlassian Suite tooling.
- Design and optimise workflows, schemes, templates, and spaces aligned to programme needs.
- Implement and manage plug‑ins, integrations, and custom configurations.
- Technical Delivery & Support
- Manage user accounts, permissions, groups, and access models.
- Provide 2nd/3rd line support for Atlassian‑related issues within a secure environment.
- Monitor platform performance, reliability, and capacity.
- Automation & Integration
- Automate administrative tasks using scripts, APIs, or workflow rules.
- Integrate Atlassian tools with wider MOD systems or delivery toolchains.
- Support CI/CD integration points where applicable.
- Governance, Security & Compliance
- Ensure platforms meet MOD security guidelines and accreditation requirements.
- Maintain documentation, configuration baselines, and audit‑ready records.
- Work closely with Security, Architecture, and Delivery teams to ensure compliant operation.
- User Enablement & Best Practice
- Advise teams on effective use of Jira and Confluence.
- Develop standards, documentation, training materials, and user guides.
- Support team onboarding and drive adoption of consistent tooling practices.
Required Experience
- Strong, hands‑on administration experience with Jira and Confluence.
- Previous work supporting the Atlassian ecosystem (e.g., Bitbucket, Service Management, Insight/Assets).
- Experience designing and managing Jira workflows, custom fields, permission schemes, and global configurations.
- Strong understanding of Confluence space management, templates, and permissions.
- Background in secure, Enterprise, or Government/Defence environments.
- Experience with automation or integration, using APIs, scripting (PowerShell, Python), or Atlassian app frameworks.
