We are currently seeking an experienced User Researcher with active SC clearance to join a high-profile government digital programme. This is an excellent opportunity to work on meaningful, user-centred services within a collaborative agile environment, helping to shape and improve digital experiences used by thousands of citizens.

The successful candidate will bring strong experience delivering user research within Central Government or Defence environments, alongside a thorough understanding of Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and best practices. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure user needs drive product and service decisions throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and conduct user research across Discovery, Alpha, Beta and Live phases.
  • Apply a range of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including interviews, usability testing, surveys and workshops.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Service Designers, Business Analysts, Content Designers and Delivery teams.
  • Analyse and synthesise research findings into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Ensure services align with GDS principles, standards and assessment requirements.
  • Communicate research outcomes effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Champion user-centred design, accessibility and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Support continuous service improvement through ongoing research and feedback loops.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience as a User Researcher within Central Government, Defence, or wider Public Sector organisations.
  • Strong understanding of GDS standards, service assessments and user-centred design principles.
  • Experience delivering research across the full digital product lifecycle.
  • Demonstrable ability to influence stakeholders through evidence-based insights.
  • Strong communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Active SC Clearance is mandatory and must be in place before engagement.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience supporting or leading GDS service assessments, including Beta Assessments.
  • Experience working on large-scale citizen-facing digital services.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive research practices.
  • Previous experience within highly regulated government or defence environments.
