What you'll do
- Spearhead the design and execution of service design initiatives, ensuring alignment with user requirements and organizational goals.
- Work in partnership with stakeholders to gather insights and develop customized service design approaches that improve project results.
- Facilitate workshops and brainstorming sessions to generate innovative ideas and solutions for service enhancements.
- Conduct thorough user research to understand needs, behaviors, and pain points, translating findings into actionable design strategies.
- Develop and maintain service blueprints, journey maps, and other visual documentation to communicate design concepts effectively.
- Ensure that all service design projects adhere to Government Digital Service (GDS) standards, guiding teams through assessments and evaluations.
- Mentor and support junior designers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages skill development and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented service designs, using feedback to make continuous improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and product managers, to ensure seamless integration of service designs into existing systems.

Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in service design or product design, preferably within the public sector.
- Proven ability to independently manage service design projects and workstreams with minimal supervision.
- Comprehensive understanding of Government Digital Service (GDS) standards and principles, with experience in facilitating successful service assessments.
- Strong background in selecting and customizing service design methodologies and tools to suit specific project requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
- A portfolio showcasing a range of service design projects and outcomes, demonstrating your design thinking process and impact.

- Experience working within the government or defense sectors, with an understanding of their unique challenges and requirements.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and their application in service design projects.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
