We are seeking an experienced Interaction Designer to support a large UK Central Government department on an initial 2-month contract. This role is ideal for someone who has previously worked in government environments and is confident operating within GDS standards.

The Role

You will play a key role in designing clear, accessible, and user-centred interactions for public services. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will help shape intuitive digital services that meet user needs while aligning with government standards and policy requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and iterating user journeys, task flows, and interaction patterns for digital services within a large UK government organisation
  • Applying interaction design principles across complex, multi-channel services
  • Creating wireframes, prototypes, and interaction models aligned with the GOV.UK Design System
  • Collaborating with product managers, user researchers, service designers, content designers, and developers
  • Using evidence, user research, and data to inform design decisions
  • Ensuring designs meet GDS standards, accessibility requirements, and best practice

About You

Essential experience:

  • Proven experience working as an Interaction Designer within Central Government
  • Strong knowledge of GDS, including hands-on experience with the GOV.UK Design System
  • Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to clearly communicate design decisions and rationale to a range of stakeholders
