We are seeking an experienced metallurgist to manage our Metallurgy Department and to provide specialist metallurgical input. The role would be based from our London laboratories and will include some site work in London, the UK and occasionally overseas.

The Metallurgy Department applies its expertise to a range of areas including identification and characterisation of samples, weld qualification, failure investigations and mechanical testing. We principally work in the construction field so much of our work relates to structural steels and cast irons, but we are also regularly consulted on stainless steels and copper alloy issues. Our lab undertakes testing including tensile, impact and hardness; conducts metallurgical microscopy including polishing and etching of the samples. Alongside this, the department has a complete workshop to prepare samples for mechanical testing as well as fabrication of custom test rigs.

In addition to the main work of the department, the Laboratory Manager will undertake more complex consultancy work such as failure analysis, which may lead to Expert Witness activities. You will be responsible for managing the whole department which includes a small team.

Salary is competitive and will be based on experience. After the first six month’s employment, a twice-yearly bonus may be available.
