Sandberg is recruiting for a Ground Penetrating Radar surveyor into our well-established GPR Department. Applications will be considered either from entry-level candidates or from those with experience in GPR for a higher-level role.
The Role
Sandberg’s GPR Department comprises a team of surveyors using NDT technology to provide support to the construction industry. The department undertakes surveys using high-tech equipment for a host of purposes, including concrete mapping (slab/wall thickness, reinforcement details), construction details (structural steelwork), determining the location of chimney flues, voids/buried objects detection and a few more specialised applications requiring particular expertise.
The nature of the work means that the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, from building sites to train stations, from warehouses to luxury flats and all manner in between.
Working alongside our experienced GPR surveyors, you will be trained in using the equipment, processing the data and analysing the results. Along the way, you will work closely with other departments within the firm and will develop your knowledge of construction.
This is a perfect position for someone wishing to develop their geophysics/construction background and enjoys the experience of visiting different customer sites. The core of the work will be:
- On-site data acquisition using the GPR equipment
- Preparing final reports using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
This is a full-time position based at our laboratories in Clapham, London, but with a significant proportion of the work being site-based around London and beyond. Though this will normally be a Monday to Friday role, there will be occasional work at nights and weekends at overtime rates.
There is potential for the successful applicant to progress within the firm to a more senior role.
The Person
It is important that you are hands-on and willing to learn. Specific GPR knowledge is not required as training will be provided, but some related knowledge of geophysics or construction is necessary so you have some grounding.
- A related degree (Geophysics/Geology/Construction Related Degree)
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or better
- Driving Licence
- An ability to communicate clearly in English, both written and verbal
Preferred
- CSCS card
- Understanding of building construction
- Experience with NDT methods
- Experience with topographical surveys (Total Station)
Experienced candidates should have at least two years experience in a similar GPR role.
Sandberg is proud to have a community feel and employ staff from a variety of different backgrounds. We are committed to continuing to develop a diverse and inclusive workplace. We welcome and will consider all applications that meet the above requirements.
