Communication Support Worker (BSL Essential) – Wandsworth

Rate: £33.66 per hour (PAYE)
Contract Length: 9 months initially
Start Date: ASAP
Working Pattern: Wednesday 8:45am – 2:30pm, Friday 1pm – 4:15pm
Sanctuary Personnel is seeking a skilled Communication Support Worker with British Sign Language (BSL) Level 3 or higher to provide dedicated support in an educational environment based in Wandsworth.
This rewarding position is focused on enabling learners with a wide range of additional needs to succeed – from social, emotional and mental health challenges to learning difficulties, disabilities, medical conditions, or requirements around ESOL, English, and Maths.
Role Overview
As a Communication Support Worker, you will:
Deliver one-to-one and small group support using BSL where required.
Mentor and encourage learners to achieve their qualifications, develop life skills, and progress toward their EHCP outcomes.

Support students in building confidence, resilience, and independence.

Assist during examinations and assessments.

Maintain accurate progress records and contribute to EHCP reviews.

Work collaboratively with tutors, therapists, and wider education teams to ensure consistent support.

Requirements of the Communication Support Worker
BSL Level 3 qualification (essential).

Previous experience in a Communication Support or similar role.

Strong background supporting learners with additional needs (e.g., SEMH, disabilities, medical conditions).

Ability to implement tailored support plans and educational strategies.

Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.

Desirable:
Knowledge of safeguarding and promoting learner wellbeing.

Previous work within FE or specialist education settings.

Experience supporting ESOL, English, or Maths learners.
