What you will do
- Perform routine and specialised laboratory investigations in accordance with departmental SOPs.
- Receive, prepare, process, and analyse patient samples, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and timely reporting of results.
- Operate, maintain, and undertake basic troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and analysers.
- Participate in internal quality control, external quality assessment schemes, and laboratory audit activities.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and associated digital platforms.
- Support senior Biomedical Scientists and laboratory managers in maintaining efficient workflow and service continuity.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Degree (BSc) in Biomedical Science, Biological Science, or a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Additional pathology or laboratory-based qualifications desirable.
Registration and Compliance
- Knowledge of UKAS ISO 15189 laboratory standards.
- Understanding of NHS governance requirements and quality management systems.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations, and infection prevention procedures.
Experience
- Previous experience working within an NHS, accredited diagnostic laboratory, or equivalent healthcare environment.
- Experience in Blood Sciences, Microbiology, Histopathology, Molecular Diagnostics, or a related pathology discipline.
- Previous Band 5 Pathology BMS experience is essential.
