What you will do

  • Perform routine and specialised laboratory investigations in accordance with departmental SOPs.
  • Receive, prepare, process, and analyse patient samples, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and timely reporting of results.
  • Operate, maintain, and undertake basic troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and analysers.
  • Participate in internal quality control, external quality assessment schemes, and laboratory audit activities.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and associated digital platforms.
  • Support senior Biomedical Scientists and laboratory managers in maintaining efficient workflow and service continuity.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree (BSc) in Biomedical Science, Biological Science, or a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Additional pathology or laboratory-based qualifications desirable.

Registration and Compliance

  • Knowledge of UKAS ISO 15189 laboratory standards.
  • Understanding of NHS governance requirements and quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations, and infection prevention procedures.

Experience

  • Previous experience working within an NHS, accredited diagnostic laboratory, or equivalent healthcare environment.
  • Experience in Blood Sciences, Microbiology, Histopathology, Molecular Diagnostics, or a related pathology discipline.
  • Previous Band 5 Pathology BMS experience is essential.
