Phlebotomist Location: Neath, Wales Pay Rates: Β£18 per hour (Monday-Friday) | Β£24 per hour (Sunday shifts available) Job Type: Flexible Agency / Locum Shifts
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venepuncture, cannulation, and blood collection procedures safely and accurately.
- Ensure correct patient identification, obtain consent where required, and label specimens accurately.
- Handle, prepare, store, and transport clinical specimens in line with established protocols.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control (IPC) and adhere to all health and safety procedures.
- Complete clinical documentation and patient records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Deliver compassionate, professional, patient-centred care at all times.
- Travel between outreach locations as required to support service delivery.
- Maintain equipment and clinical areas to the highest standards.
- Work collaboratively with the wider clinical team to ensure an efficient and high-quality service.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working within a healthcare setting.
- Demonstrable competency in phlebotomy, venepuncture, cannulation, and/or blood collection procedures.
- Valid and current competency certificate for venepuncture, cannulation, or blood drawing.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high clinical standards.
- Strong understanding of patient safety, infection prevention and control, and specimen handling procedures.
- Excellent communication and patient care skills.
- Must be 25 years of age or over.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Willingness to work flexibly across a Monday-Friday service.
Desirable Requirements
- Current DBS or PVG certificate.
- Background as a Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Assistant, Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA), Nurse, Healthcare Assistant (HCA), or another healthcare professional with relevant experience.
- Experience within hospitals, community healthcare services, pathology laboratories, GP practices, or pharmacy environments.
- Familiarity with specimen transport systems and laboratory workflows.
- Experience working within outreach, mobile, or multi-site healthcare services.
