What you will do
- Undertake comprehensive glaucoma assessments including visual field analysis, OCT interpretation, optic nerve evaluation, pachymetry, gonioscopy, and intraocular pressure measurement.
- Manage patients within consultant-led and optometrist-led glaucoma clinics in accordance with locally agreed clinical pathways.
- Identify patients requiring escalation, treatment review, or onward referral to Ophthalmology Consultants.
- Maintain accurate clinical records in line with NHS documentation standards, information governance requirements, and Trust policies.
Person Specification Qualifications
- Degree in Optometry or recognised equivalent qualification.
- Registration with the General Optical Council (GOC).
- Independent Prescribing Qualification or willingness to undertake training (desirable).
- Higher qualifications in Glaucoma or Professional Certificate/Higher Certificate in Glaucoma (desirable for Band 7).
Registration & Compliance
- Current GOC registration with no restrictions on practice.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- Understanding of NHS Clinical Governance Frameworks.
- Knowledge of Information Governance, Infection Prevention and Control, Equality Act 2010, and safeguarding responsibilities.
Experience
- Minimum of 4 years experience as a qualified optometrist.
- Advanced proficiency in glaucoma management and laser procedures such as MR and YAG Laser.
