We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Construction team covering projects in the West Midlands. This role sits within the wider Development Construction department and plays a pivotal part in assisting the management of the commercial administration of regional capital construction projects to meet the needs of Sanctuary and the wider community. Responsibilities include assisting Senior Quantity Surveyor with tendering construction projects, negotiating contract terms with contractors, compiling contract documents and administering on site construction contracts for the Group’s ongoing Development programme within a geographical region.
The ideal candidate will have the ability and knowledge to work reasonably independently, but under the guidance of senior staff, and have good experience working in the construction industry, ideally on new build residential projects. The ability to build relationships with both contractors and internal stakeholders in the Development team is vital.
The role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor will include:
- Supporting Senior Quantity Surveyors in quantity surveying tasks on construction projects
- Completing administration duties in relation to capital projects ensuring the needs are met
- Ensuring all legislative and regulatory requirements are met for development and reinvestment capital activities
- Communicate effectively and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
- Ensuring all projects and works are delivered to a high quality, safe, compliant and environmentally sustainable standard
Skills and experiences:
- To ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, candidates applying for this role must be qualified to AssocRIC, MRICS CIOB, Degree, HND or HNC in Surveying or Construction, or currently undertaking the qualifications. If you have a lower level qualification along with practical experience and would be prepared to undertake this qualification with the support of Sanctuary Group, we would still welcome an application
- Recent experience in a building and surveying environment
- Experience of providing administrative support in a commercially focused housing and/or contracting business
- Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workloads
- Some experience of project management and supporting the effective delivery of projects
- Understanding of managing commercial administration for construction projects
- Working knowledge of legislation and current practices
- Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Travel is a requirement of the role, therefore a full valid driving license is essential
