About the Trainee Scheme
As a Land and Planning Trainee, you’ll:
- Gain in-depth knowledge of land acquisition and planning processes
- Search for and procure new land opportunities
- Develop a wider understanding of house building and business operations
- Rotate across Business Units within your Division to maximise exposure to diverse land projects and processes
Hands-on experience includes:
- Land risk assessments
- Heads of Term, negotiations and agreements
- Legal instructions
- Applications and appeals
- Section 106/75 and planning negotiations
The programme
The Trainee Programme is a structured development pathway lasting between two and four years, depending on your entry level and progression. It combines on-the-job experience with formal training to build the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to step into the Land and Planning role.
Throughout the programme, you will:
- Complete a two-year professional skills course at our dedicated Training Hub in Solihull
- Follow a structured development plan with clear milestones for salary progression
- Take part in regular reviews with your line manager to track progress and identify growth opportunities
- Have the opportunity to apply for the Kings Trust Million Makers programme
Job requirements
- 2:1 degree or above in a RICS or RTPI accredited course in planning or surveying
- A Full UK Driving License or an ability to get to remote site locations independently.
- Willingness to travel between sites and around your business unit area.
- Willingness to move to a Business Unit within the Division for up to 6 months
- You must have a Full Right to Work in the UK.
