As a Junior Research Data Scientist, you will transform complex and unstructured digital data into meaningful insights for SAMY’s teams and clients.

You will contribute across the full research data science workflow, developing tailored analytical solutions, internal tools, and experiments that strengthen SAMY’s research capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, structure, transform, and analyse unstructured data from social media, online communities, surveys, reviews, forums, and search behaviour.
  • Apply statistical, machine learning, and NLP methods to answer bespoke research and business questions.
  • Develop and evaluate analytical approaches for complex problems where no predefined methodology exists.
  • Use APIs, including LLM APIs, to collect, process, enrich, and analyse data.
  • Build internal tools and reusable workflows that make research more rigorous, efficient, and accessible across SAMY.
  • Translate analytical outputs into clear insights, visualisations, and client-facing recommendations that explain the meaning and business relevance of the findings.
  • Conduct exploratory experiments to evaluate emerging data science, NLP, and AI methodologies.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Analysts, Strategy, Creative, Project Management, and Operations teams across different markets and industries.

Skills & Experience

  • Academic or applied research experience involving statistics, data analysis, or a substantial quantitative research project.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, or another relevant quantitative discipline.
  • Working knowledge of R and its data science ecosystem, particularly the tidyverse; strong knowledge of Python’s data science stack may also be considered.
  • Practical understanding of statistical modelling and data science methods, particularly natural language processing and the analysis of unstructured text.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the ability to translate technical analysis into clear conclusions, implications, and recommendations for non-technical audiences.
