Samuel Knight Energy are now seeking to recruit an experienced Grid and Electrical Engineer to work alongside our site teams and take responsibility for delivering all Electrical work packages for our clients BESS projects. The immediate focus will be on the delivery of a 120MW BESS at the site in Newport, which has now received planning permission and is aiming to start construction in Q1 2025 to meet the 2026 connection date. The project will be delivered as a two-package contract strategy plus the grid connection. Suitable candidates will have extensive experience in grid-connecting renewable energy projects and a proven track record working on the client side managing complex technical interfaces between contracts. Responsibilities: Ensure all works are designed and delivered safely. Work Package Manager for all grid connection and HV works needed to connect our BESS projects to the grid at the site in Newport. Management of the grid compliance UDFS process to achieve the necessary approvals in line with the project programme. Management of all Electrical (132kV to 33kV to LV) and control system interfaces between National Grid, the Balance of Plant contractor, and the BESS supply contract. Manage technical and control interfaces between the project and the Route to Market provider, ensuring all necessary metering arrangements are in place to enable commercial operations in line with the project programme. Detailed review of all project electrical engineering designs and deliverables (drawings, reports, calculations, test plans, and reports, etc.). Establish and manage efficient technical query processes during detailed design and construction by acting as the point of contact for contractors’ and suppliers’ electrical leads. Supervise and witness installation works, tests, and commissioning, including FAT, SAT, and Tests on Completion, ensuring compliance with employer requirements before project handover. Assist in preparing and reviewing electrical aspects of site-specific health and safety plans and risk assessments. Provide input and review into the development of all electrical workstreams impacting the Project Programme, reporting to the BESS Project Manager. Assist with electrical design and grid connection application work for the development of SKI’s BESS portfolio. Support technical due diligence pre-financial close and respond to technical queries from funders during project execution. Assist with tendering and tender evaluation for future SKI BESS projects. Ensure risks and opportunities are identified, documented, and managed effectively.
