Role Overview: The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities across our engineering consultancy portfolio, including electrical, civil, grid compliance studies and project management services within the UK power and energy infrastructure sector. The role requires strong industry connections, excellent commercial awareness, and the ability to develop long-term relationships with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.

Salary: £90,000 - £100,000

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that sales targets are achieved.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within DNOs, ICPs, EPCs, and renewable energy developers (BESS, Solar, Wind).
  • Develop and manage relationships with key clients and others.
  • Support in preparation of proposal submissions, prequalification documents (PQQs), and tenders in coordination with the engineering and commercial teams.
  • Track and analyse market trends, frameworks, and procurement portals to identify upcoming opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain an active pipeline of prospects in line with company growth targets.
  • Prepare / update business presentations, company profiles, capability statements, and bid documents.
  • Collaborate with Directors to establish commercial strategies, pricing models, and partnership frameworks.
  • Represent at industry events, conferences, and networking meetings.
  • Support marketing and branding initiatives, including LinkedIn campaigns and client engagement material.
  • Provide monthly business development reports summarising opportunities, bids, wins/losses, and forecasts.
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate by the management.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to meet needs of the business and clients, working outside of standard office hours from time to time.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 4–6 years of experience in business development or commercial roles within the engineering, utilities, or energy infrastructure sectors and proven track record for achieving and over-achieving annual sales targets.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with UK DNO/ICP frameworks, NEC contracts, and renewable energy projects.
  • Skills:
  • Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and presentational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficient in MS Office, CRM tools, and LinkedIn networking.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to analyse financial data and tender documents.
  • Other:
    • Must be eligible to work in the UK.
    • UK driving licence preferred.
    • Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings or site visits.
