Our client, a leader in stonemasonry, heritage restoration, and architectural stonework, is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join their team. Specialising in heritage conservation, bespoke stonework, and restoration, they work on some of the UK’s most prestigious projects, from historic buildings and churches to modern architectural developments.

The Role

As a Senior Estimator, you will play a key role in the bidding and cost estimation process, ensuring projects are accurately priced, competitive, and aligned with the company’s high standards. You will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates, managing tender submissions, and securing profitable projects, while working closely with project managers, clients, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage detailed cost estimates for stonemasonry, conservation, and restoration projects.
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop accurate tenders.
  • Analyse material, labour, and equipment costs to ensure competitive and profitable pricing.
  • Compile tender comparisons and present proposals at settlement meetings.
  • Identify risk factors and value engineering opportunities to optimise project costs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, consultants, and suppliers.
  • Work closely with supply chains to source high-quality materials at competitive rates.
  • Develop and maintain historical cost databases for benchmarking and future project estimations.
  • Oversee and mentor junior estimators, ensuring best practices are maintained across the team.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client presentations to assess project requirements.
  • Collaborate with the operations, finance, and procurement teams to ensure project estimates align with execution strategies.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, ideally within stonemasonry, heritage conservation, or high-end restoration.
  • Strong knowledge of natural stone materials, traditional masonry techniques, and restoration processes.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite, and cost analysis tools.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring junior estimators or managing teams.
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Knowledge of building regulations, conservation principles, and industry best practices.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
