An established main contractor is hiring an Estimator for its pre-construction team in Hemel Hempstead. The business turns over around £360m, has an order book above £500m and employs more than 300 people. Over 80% of its work comes from repeat clients.

The projects include:

  • Data centres, including a 90MW campus in North London
  • Industrial and logistics units from 100,000 to 285,000 sq ft
  • Life sciences and pharmaceutical facilities
  • Retail, studios, self-storage and refurbishment schemes

The role involves:

  • Leading tenders, including process, resources and pricing
  • Identifying opportunities to add value and reduce risk
  • Reporting on tender progress through the estimating plan
  • Leading the supply chain enquiry process
  • Maintaining the cost base using current quotations and framework rates
  • Producing a control document for handover to the delivery team

You will work alongside a highly experienced estimator who will develop your technique and commercial judgement. The role suits an Assistant or Junior Estimator ready for more responsibility, as well as an established Estimator looking for better projects.

What you need:

  • A degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction or Engineering
  • At least two years as a Junior Estimator, Assistant Estimator or in a closely related role
  • Confident with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Methodical and analytical, with strong attention to detail
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • A team player who works well under pressure
