Solutions Design Engineer – Automated Material Handling – Hybrid – £55,000-£60,000 + Profit Related Bonus

Samuel Frank is recruiting for a Solutions Design Engineer to join a small, growing automation business delivering automated material handling solutions across a wide range of customers and industries. This is a role for someone who enjoys variety and ownership. As a Solutions Design Engineer, you will not be tied to one product line or a narrow catalogue, you\’ll be encouraged to think commercially and technically, propose option and shape the best solution for each customer.

Key Aspects

• Taking customer requirements and turning them into fully costed, tailored solution designs
• Producing conceptual / system layouts using AutoCAD and 3D design tools
• Using your broad knowledge of automated material handling equipment to create workable, scalable designs
• Assessing third party equipment and integrated systems as part of your overall solution
• Supporting the sales process with proposal documentation, quotations and presentations
• Acting as the technical “go to” person, supporting customer meetings and solution discussions

Who the role suits

• Pro‑active, ideas led and confident offering suggestions rather than waiting for instruction
• Comfortable explaining technical solutions clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
• Commercially aware, able to balance technical design with cost, risk and deliverability
• Experienced in material handling automation, logistics automation, or a closely aligned sector
• Happy with occasional travel, but primarily operating in a hybrid structure

Key Skills / Experience

• AutoCAD for system layouts and concept development
• Exposure to 3D design tools (SketchUp, Demo3D or similar)
• Able to articulate technical solutions clearly to a non‑technical audience
