PLC Controls & Commissioning Engineer – Siemens TIA Portal – Automated Warehousing – Nuneaton / UK Site Work – £60–65k Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced PLC Controls & Commissioning Engineer to join a growing automation business delivering turnkey automated warehouse and material handling systems across the UK. The role requires an engineer with strong Siemens PLC programming skills who is equally comfortable commissioning, troubleshooting and supporting control systems on customer sites. Projects vary in duration, and commissioning activities can involve extended periods working away from the Nuneaton office. Flexibility is essential, with the successful engineer expected to work wherever the project requires, whether that's PLC development in the office or commissioning on-site. Key aspects of the PLC Controls & Commissioning Engineer role include: * Programming, developing and modifying Siemens PLC software using TIA Portal, with a strong focus on Structured Text. * Commissioning, troubleshooting and providing technical support for automated warehouse, conveyor and pallet handling systems. * Working on turnkey automation projects, from software development and testing through to installation, commissioning and handover. * Diagnosing PLC software, electrical and control system faults during commissioning and operational support. * Supporting project delivery at customer sites, with commissioning phases potentially lasting several months. * Undertaking PLC development, testing and engineering activities at the company's Nuneaton facility between site assignments. * Exposure to other PLC platforms, including Beckhoff and Allen Bradley. * Working closely with a small UK engineering team and international colleagues. Key requirements of the PLC Controls & Commissioning Engineer role include: * Strong Siemens TIA Portal programming experience is essential. * Proven ability to write, interrogate, modify and troubleshoot PLC software, including Structured Text. * Hands-on commissioning experience, ideally involving automated machinery, conveyors, warehousing or material handling systems. * Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical, controls and software issues on-site. * Experience supporting automated systems through installation, commissioning and operational handover. * Willingness and flexibility to spend extended periods working at customer sites throughout the UK. * A background in electrical engineering, automation, mechatronics or machinery commissioning would be advantageous. * Experience with Beckhoff or Allen Bradley would be beneficial. * Likely to suit a mid-to-senior level engineer with substantial industrial automation experience. The successful PLC Controls & Commissioning Engineer will be joining at an early stage of the company's UK growth, with several projects already secured and further opportunities planned. This position will particularly suit an experienced Siemens Controls Engineer who enjoys combining PLC software development with hands-on commissioning and fault finding, rather than working exclusively in a software development environment
