Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced Field Service / Commissioning Engineer to join a well-established OEM supplying specialist machinery worldwide. The role would suit a Field Service or Commissioning Engineer with strong PLC fault finding skills who is comfortable with international travel and enjoys hands-on commissioning work on site.

Key aspects of the Field Service / Commissioning Engineer role include:

  • Predominantly commissioning focused rather than traditional breakdown/service work
  • Commissioning of large industrial machinery at customer sites mainly across Western Europe and South America
  • PLC fault finding and interrogation experience essential. Ability to make minor PLC software modifications required
  • Control systems used are mainly Siemens TIA Portal & Allen Bradley and Mitsubishi PLCs (don’t need experience of all three)
  • Successful Field Service / Commissioning Engineer will check wiring, carry out staged power-ups and test machine functionality
  • Typical trip duration would be 10-14 days; some unusual jobs could be longer but would happen rarely
  • When not working away, the successful Field Service/Commissioning Engineer would work from home
  • Role involves overseeing production trials and supporting customers through final commissioning stages
  • Work closely with customer contractors, technicians and internal engineering teams during commissioning projects
  • Previous field-based travel experience would be advantageous although candidates from a maintenance controls background will also be considered
  • Role requires flexibility and willingness to stay on-site until commissioning activities are completed
  • Strong communication skills are essential as the role involves direct customer interaction and a high degree of autonomy

The successful Field Service / Commissioning Engineer will initially spend time at the main base which is in Greater Manchester, gaining product knowledge before becoming fully deployable. Training is thorough and structured and includes shadowing experienced engineers on live projects.
