Samuel Frank is recruiting for an experienced Control Systems Engineer to join a successful and expanding engineering business in East Lancashire. This position will suit someone who enjoys developing control software from scratch, taking ownership of projects and seeing their work through from concept to commissioning.

The successful Control Systems Engineer will become part of a highly skilled engineering team delivering bespoke automation and special purpose machinery projects across a wide range of industrial sectors. This is a varied role where you'll be involved in much more than software development, with exposure to customer interaction, machine build activities and site commissioning.

Key aspects of the Control Systems Engineer role include:

  • Developing PLC and HMI software from scratch for bespoke automation projects
  • Working with Siemens, Allen Bradley / Rockwell and Mitsubishi control platforms (experience of all three isn't required)
  • Delivering projects through the complete lifecycle from initial design through to final commissioning
  • Reviewing electrical designs and contributing to overall system architecture
  • Supporting machine builds, testing activities and Factory Acceptance Tests
  • Carrying out UK and international commissioning work, with overseas trips typically lasting around two weeks
  • Diagnosing and resolving software and electrical faults on automated machinery
  • Producing project documentation and supporting technical records
  • Working closely with customers throughout project delivery
  • Contributing to continuous improvement activities and helping to develop new engineering solutions

Previous experience required for the Control Systems Engineer position:

  • PLC software development from scratch
  • HMI or SCADA development experience
  • Commissioning experience on machinery, automation or process systems
  • Electrical fault finding and troubleshooting capability
  • Experience within systems integration, machinery manufacturing or industrial automation environments
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into practical control solutions
  • Experience supporting FAT and site commissioning activities

The Control Systems Engineer role is typically split around 60% office based and 40% site based, although this varies depending on project requirements. The position will suit an engineer who enjoys a mixture of software development, customer interaction and hands-on commissioning work.
