Samuel Frank is recruiting for an Instrument Commissioning Engineer to join a well-established engineering business working on a long-term programme of water and wastewater projects across Yorkshire. The successful Instrument Commissioning Engineer will be home based and need to live in Yorkshire. You will travel directly from home to sites across the region, with work planned geographically wherever possible to minimise unnecessary travelling. This is a site-based commissioning role rather than a PLC software position. You will be working across clean water and wastewater sites, pumping stations and other water infrastructure, commissioning and calibrating instrumentation and supporting ICA/OT projects.
The company is also open to considering someone earlier in their career who has completed an electrical apprenticeship and gained a few years relevant experience and is now looking for the next step.
Key aspects of the Instrument Commissioning Engineer role include:
- Instrument commissioning, configuration, calibration and testing
- Working with instrumentation including flow meters, ultrasonic level measurement and radar instrumentation
- Site surveys to establish requirements for upcoming projects
- Working alongside installation subcontractors and supervising ICA/SCADA contractors
- Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), configuration auditing and commissioning
- Exposure to PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, telemetry, OT networks and associated control systems
- Working with clients, contractors and other engineering disciplines throughout project delivery
- Typically on site around 8:00-8:30am and on normal days expect to be leaving around 3:30-4:00pm
- Paid overtime when projects require additional hours, although extensive overtime isn't expected
The successful Instrument Commissioning Engineer will need:
- An electrical qualification or recognised electrical apprenticeship - this is essential
- An instrumentation, ICA, electrical or process control background
- Hands-on site commissioning experience
- Experience configuring, testing or calibrating industrial instrumentation
- Ideally have knowledge of PLC, SCADA and HMI systems
- A willingness to work outdoors on operational sites throughout the year
- Good communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients and contractors
Candidates don't necessarily need to come directly from the water industry. Engineers from other process, instrumentation, industrial automation or control environments will be considered where they have the right electrical background and practical site experience.
