About the role:
Samsara's Telematics team builds the endātoāend platform that powers vehicle telematics across millions of connected assets. This platform provides realātime insights into fleet performance, safety, and efficiency. As a Senior Engineer on the Safety Detection team, you'll contribute to a portfolio of products that help customers identify driving and environmental risks consistently, precisely and rapidly.
The Safety Detection Engineering team serves as the critical backbone of Samsara's safety ecosystem, integrating complex event data streams to deliver lifeāsaving features to our customers. This team engineers the highāperformance infrastructure required to detect events, persist events, enrich with metadata and multiācamera HD video, trigger inācab alerts, and ensure seamless communication between hardware and the cloud.
You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers to deliver reliable, dataādriven solutions that enable fleets worldwide to reduce fuel usage, lower carbon emissions, upskill the fleet, and transition toward sustainable operations.
This is a remote position open to candidates based in the UK. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

In this role, you will:
- Lead technical discussions with teammates to identify gaps in our telematics data platform and influence roadmap by setting direction and recommending solutions.
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to make design decisions and understand downstream implications in our product to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Ship features that deliver value to customers, consistently refining them based on gathered feedback.
- Deliver full stack features across multiple tiers (frontāend, backāend and mobile). GoLang, GraphQL, Typescript, React and ReactNative among other technologies.
- Be responsible for maintaining the production systems that your team owns and provide operational support.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- 8+ years of experience designing and building products in a software engineering team.
- Proven experience leading the design, development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of highly scalable, distributed software systems.
- Experience mentoring and supporting engineers and roleāmodeling engineering practices within a technical lead capacity.
- Experience taking endātoāend ownership of product, feature designs, development and delivery of largeāscale and longārunning projects.
- Proactive growth mindset, always looking at ways to improve the status quo.
An ideal candidate also has:
- B.S. in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
- Experience building customerāfacing web and mobile workflow applications.
- Curiosity about our customers, and is eager to improve their dayātoāday experience.
