West Midlands Police are seeking an Intelligence Support Officer to develop, evaluate and manage intelligence products that support investigations and operational policing activity. The role involves assessing threats, risks, harm and identifying intelligence gaps, ensuring intelligence is disseminated effectively to support decision making. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with strong analytical, research and information management skills who are interested in intelligence‑led policing and public safety. Due to the nature of the role, candidates must be willing to undergo Management Vetting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate information to determine its intelligence value and potential.
  • Develop intelligence assessments identifying threats, risks, harm and vulnerabilities.
  • Identify intelligence gaps and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Conduct open source research in accordance with relevant guidelines.
  • Interrogate Force and National intelligence systems and databases.
  • Contribute to Tactical Assessments and other intelligence reports.
  • Support overt operations, major incidents and intelligence cell activity.
  • Identify crime trends, hotspots and linked crime series.
  • Work closely with internal departments to develop and enhance intelligence.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and partners.

Skills and Experience

  • Awareness of the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and Management of Police Information (MOPI).
  • Demonstrable ability to work using initiative and self motivation.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, integrity and professionalism.
  • Experience identifying information or intelligence gaps and conducting research to resolve them.
  • Experience working within an intelligence, information or analytical environment.
  • Practical knowledge of police intelligence systems.
  • Awareness of legislation and guidance including GDPR, Human Rights Act, CPIA.
