Personal Assistants support people to live well. They provide the right support at the right time to help others to live their best lives. Is this you? Do you want a job that is rewarding and fulfilling?

The role is to support a 32‑year‑old man who has a mild learning disability and mild Autism. He lives with his dad in the Acomb area of York. He is a gentle, friendly person, and enjoys working with his personal assistants. He would like a Personal Assistant to support him for 6 hours at a regular time each week – on Thursday during the daytime. He is interested in all aspects of film, is involved in the York Shakespeare Project, and made his debut with them last year acting in a run of five performances. He also enjoys photography, reading books, live music (particularly at the 45 Vinyl Cafe), and a weekly nature walk at St Nicks Nature Reserve.

Duties

  • Support the client to develop skills in the home
  • Follow his creative pursuits
  • Help him take steps towards employment
  • Enable him to broaden his social activities
  • Help him gain confidence to take more control of his life

(No personal care is required – the client is able‑bodied.)

Activities include:

  • Cooking
  • Going into town
  • Creating a podcast
  • Dealing with correspondence and administration
  • Photography
  • Going for walks / walking the dog
  • Visiting places of interest
  • Supporting with job search
  • Going to yoga class or doing yoga at home
  • Cinema
  • Liaising with his dad and other personal assistants
  • Developing his acting skills
  • Supporting with health appointments

He is also open to being inspired by what you might bring to the post.
