About the Role

The Deputy Manager will work as part of a team that provides holistic recovery-focused support to clients with mental health across Exeter & East Devon Mental Health Services. They will work closely with and deputise for the Service Manager to ensure effective delivery of quality housing and support services within Exeter & East Devon Mental Health Services and will be responsible for the day-to-day operational delivery. They will provide effective line management for delegated front-line staff of the services, including recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal and performance management.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, evaluate and contribute towards the development of local/service-specific procedures and good practice in all areas of service management.
  • Undertake regular audits of various aspects of the service including CDPSoft records, Universal Housing records, client files, medication paperwork and Health & Safety records; take any necessary action and report any issues or concerns to the Service Manager.
  • Plan, coordinate and lead the induction of all line-managed staff; ensure that ongoing training needs are identified, reviewed and implemented and assist in the induction of any other staff team member, as required.
  • Allocate client caseloads to Mental Health Support Workers fairly and consistently; and, in the absence of a Mental Health Support Worker, ensure client caseloads are appropriately reallocated and covered.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the services while ensuring effective administration and communication systems are maintained and adhered to.
  • Be on-call on a rolling rota: once every 10-14 days; weekday on-calls are from 20:00–08:00 and weekend/public-holiday on-calls are 08:00–08:00.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 5 in Health & Social Care or similar, or a willingness to work towards it.
  • Excellent leadership skills; ability to motivate, encourage and empower others.
  • Proven experience managing a team of people, including recruitment, induction, probationary reviews, supervision and appraisals.
  • Ability to build trusting, professional relationships and a high level of resilience.
  • Asset-based approach to empowering people to develop their skills, strengths and talents.
  • Good knowledge and working experience of supporting individuals with complex mental health and adults at risk.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn about community resources and organisations that can help clients.
