About The Role

Hours: 40 hours per week term time only
Salary: £30,000- £35,000 pro rata depending on qualification and experience (£37,500-£43,750 FTE)

We are seeking a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our Carlisle team and make a meaningful contribution to the lives of our students. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dedicated and supportive staff team, working to ensure that every student has access to the right capable environment to learn and have the right individualised support they need to thrive at college. The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team in Carlisle, as well as within the wider Beaumont College and Salutem organisation. You will play a key role in enabling students to experience an engaging, personalised and successful educational journey, supporting them to develop independence, confidence and essential life skills for adulthood.

We are seeking a candidate who has completed an appropriate Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) qualification, a Positive Behaviour Management Pro Trainer qualification (or equivalent), or who is willing to undertake this training. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive, professional relationships across teams. Strong report writing and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside a person-centred, respectful and strengths-based approach in all aspects of practice. You will have experience of coaching and training staff teams, supporting the embedding of consistent, high-quality practice. Previous experience in designing and delivering training is highly desirable. The role requires strong IT skills, including the ability to confidently deliver presentations using PowerPoint. In addition, you will bring excellent analytical and data literacy skills, with the ability to interpret and present information effectively using tools. You will demonstrate high-level interpersonal skills, including empathy, collaboration and the confidence to appropriately and constructively challenge practice where required. You will work closely with the Principal, Assistant Principal, Senior Support Worker at Beaumont College, Carlisle and the Positive Behaviour Support Lead for the whole of Beaumont College.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The PBS Practitioner is responsible for delivering high‑quality, person‑centred Positive Behaviour Support to individuals across all Salutem Care and Education locations. The role involves leading functional assessments, co‑designing person‑centred PBS plans, and building staff capability through coaching and training. The practitioner is committed to reducing restrictive practices while promoting safety, dignity, participation, and skill development. Improving the quality of life for the people we support is central to this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote Positive Behaviour Support in Salutem locations, contributing to ensuring high standards of professional, effective and person-centred care delivery to the individuals we support.
  • Conduct functional assessments to understand why behaviours occur and identify unmet needs, environmental triggers, or communication barriers.
  • Develop personalised Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs) that are proactive, strengths‑based, and aligned with the individual’s goals, preferences, and support needs.
  • Work directly with the individual, their family, and wider support network to implement strategies that promote skill development, emotional regulation, and meaningful engagement.
  • Coach and train staff teams to confidently use PBS approaches, ensuring consistent, compassionate practice.
  • Monitor and review behaviour data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and update plans accordingly.
  • Promote a reduction in restrictive practices, ensuring support is safe, ethical, and aligned with best‑practice frameworks and legislation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychology, social care, education, and health professionals to deliver holistic, joined‑up support.
  • Champion a person‑centred culture that prioritises dignity, autonomy, and quality of life.

  • Develop and deliver workshops and training associated with your role as directed by your line manager.
  • Mentor and/or supervise less experienced colleagues as directed/delegated by your line manager.
  • Carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading as requested by your line manager or his/her higher level of authority.
