We are seeking a skilled engineer to act as the primary onsite technical lead for a flagship customer data centre, ensuring the highest standards of operational performance at all times. As part of our Operational Services team - supporting over 180 global contracts - you will help deliver exceptional maintenance, engineering and technical support across critical environments.
In this role, you will:
- Serve as the engineering subject matter expert, providing technical leadership to client and internal teams, delivering customer-focused service, and actively recommending improvements to plant and equipment.
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across critical mechanical and electrical systems, including inspections, repairs, fault-finding, and modifications.
- Oversee all onsite operational and maintenance activities, ensuring safe working practices, SLA compliance, accurate maintenance reporting, CMMS updates, and full adherence to access control, security protocols, and fire protection systems.
- Maintain strong technical governance, including audits, documentation control, updates within all share systems and applying established standards, policies, and best practices.
- Support Technical Contract Management and Sales teams by identifying service improvements and potential opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly checks, inspections, and alarm monitoring.
- Lead preventive maintenance tasks, vendor activities, repairs, and corrective works.
- Collaborate with client and internal teams on major repairs and procedural development.
- Perform switching activities and ensure strict adherence to approved MOPs and safety practices.
- Escalate and manage incidents appropriately.
- Support capacity management and assist wider teams as needed.
- Participate in the out-of-hours rota for this and other contracted sites.
- Carry out additional duties as required by Management.
What we’re looking for:
- Strong engineering mindset with some hands-on experience of BMS, UPS, STS, LV/HV, and HVAC systems.
- A team-first mentality with a proactive approach to learning and on-the-job development.
- Genuine interest in strengthening technical capability, particularly in electrical and mechanical controls.
- Industrial or mission-critical experience is essential; data centre experience is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to work with multiple engineering disciplines to resolve complex operational issues in critical environments.
- Experience in managing third-party vendors to ensure quality service delivery.

The role is a full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week, with participation in an out-of-hours support escalation rota (1 week in every 3). The base salary will be commensurate with experience and is expected to be highly competitive. The package also includes an additional 15% of base salary for the on-call allowance (1 in 3 rotation), plus a company vehicle and fuel card. The position is based onsite five days a week in Wythenshawe, Manchester, and we are seeking candidates who live within a comfortably commutable distance to the data centre.
