The company provides integrated building control, fire engineering, and fire safety consultancy services to a wide range of corporate clients. With regional offices and a team of over 40 experienced surveyors and fire engineers, Salus offers consistent, expert advice and clear interpretation of regulations. Clients benefit from a single point of contact throughout their projects, supporting delivery “from concept to completion.” Salus delivers all Registered Building Control Approver services directly and does not operate a franchise model.

We have hybrid Senior Building Inspector roles available in Birmingham, Oxfordshire, East London and Essex (5 days or 4 days per week). The Senior Building Inspector will carry out building and site inspections at various project stages to assess compliance with relevant building regulations and standards. The role includes reviewing plans and technical documentation, providing clear, practical guidance to clients and design teams, and documenting findings in accurate inspection reports. The Senior Building Inspector will collaborate with internal fire safety and engineering specialists, advise on code interpretation, and support the resolution of non-compliance issues. The position also involves mentoring junior colleagues, contributing to continuous improvement of inspection processes, and maintaining strong, professional relationships with clients and regulatory stakeholders.

Person Specification

  • Strong experience in Building Inspections and Inspection processes across a range of building types and project stages.
  • Proficiency in Site Inspections, including assessing workmanship, materials, and on-site compliance with approved plans and regulations.
  • Solid knowledge of Code Enforcement and relevant building regulations, with the ability to interpret and communicate requirements clearly.
  • Working understanding of Plumbing and related building services sufficient to assess compliance within the overall building inspection remit.
  • Professional qualification in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, or a closely related discipline (e.g., degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience).
  • Membership or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CABE, RICS, CIOB, or similar) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, structured inspection reports and provide balanced, solutions-focused advice to clients and design teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
  • High level of personal integrity, sound professional judgment, and a commitment to health, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Comfortable working on-site across multiple locations in and around Birmingham, with a full driving license or equivalent mobility as appropriate.
