Our Financial Planning business runs on data: client books, advice journeys, fee income, adviser capacity. Until now, there hasn’t been one person whose job is to make sense of it all for the people who run the business. That’s the role we’re creating. You’ll sit in our Data team, but most of your day will be spent with the Financial Planning leadership team and the MDs of our advice businesses. You’ll take loosely framed questions like "where are we losing clients?" or "which planners have capacity?" and turn them into clear, trusted answers and practical recommendations. You’ll also bring good data habits back into the business, so people trust the numbers and can use them confidently themselves.
Why Saltus? Our mission is to improve everyone’s relationship with their wealth: to make it a positive force for their future and at the same time to prevent it being a source of anxiety. We want everyone who works at Saltus to be proud to work here, and to find fulfilment and meaning in the work that they do. We are a successful, privately owned, LLP, with a number of offices across England including London, Newcastle, Bath and Whiteley. We are incredibly proud of our culture and work really hard to ensure that Saltus is a great place to work for our people, where they can have fun and grow in their career, with a passion for excellence and customer service.
We’re proud that we’ve been recognized as a winner by the Sunday Times in the Best Places to Work 2024 awards, as well as a winner in the Professional Adviser awards 2024 for the Best Financial Advisers to Work For. These accolades reflect our commitment to creating an exceptional work environment and our dedication to excellence in the financial industry.
Saltus is an independently owned financial planning and discretionary investment management house. We are dedicated to providing a high-quality service for private clients, trusts, and smaller institutions. Saltus Partners was founded in 2004 and has grown organically and through a small number of carefully integrated acquisitions. Originally the business started out as an investment manager and has now developed the financial planning side of the offering, putting this at the forefront of the client relationship. Today Saltus manages and advises on over £12 billion of client assets, acquired through a combination of organic business growth and corporate acquisitions.
Can you tell me more about the role? We believe that data is everything. It supports our strategic decision making; it helps us understand our customers; it allows automation and efficiencies. Being data-centric sits at the heart of our technology strategy. In this newly created role within our Data team, you will collaborate with teams across the business and will be able to demonstrate a real passion for data and the impact it can have.
Duties will include the following:
- Being the go to person for Financial Planning’s data needs: shaping requests, agreeing priorities and managing a shared backlog so the work with the biggest commercial impact gets done first
- Analysing client book performance, assets under advice, initial and ongoing fees, retention, cost to serve and adviser productivity
- Building and maintaining dashboards in Power BI (or whatever fits the problem best) and automating recurring reports to cut down on spreadsheet work
- Agreeing and documenting KPIs with the business so everyone works from one version of the truth
- Supporting business planning and budgeting with Finance, and producing Consumer Duty outcome monitoring MI with Compliance
- Writing and optimising SQL, mapping processes and data flows, and working with our data engineers to improve data quality and models
- Upholding data governance, UK GDPR and FCA standards within the team you support
What skills and experience do I need to have? We are looking for someone who:
- Solid experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst or in a similar role
- Must have 5 years experience in a financial planning company
- Strong SQL, including complex joins, CTEs and window functions
- A working understanding of how wealth management or financial planning makes money: advice models, platforms, pensions, ISAs, investments and protection
- The ability to draw commercially useful conclusions from complex data and explain them plainly to senior, non-technical people
- Requirements gathering and process mapping experience
- Hands‑on experience with Power BI, Tableau or Excel. We care more about choosing the right tool than about loyalty to one product
- A disciplined approach to accuracy and reconciliation
It would be great if you also have:
- Experience with wealth management back-office or CRM systems such as Intelliflo or Salesforce
- Knowledge of Consumer Duty and FCA MI requirements
- Exposure to Azure, Snowflake or Databricks
- A BI or business analysis qualification (such as PL-300, BCS or IIBA), or financial services study such as the CII Diploma
- Experience in an agile environment
What success looks like after a year: Financial Planning sees you as its first port of call for data. Core KPIs are agreed and live in one trusted set of dashboards. Data quality issues are logged and moving. Your analysis has directly shaped at least one real business decision.
Where will I be working? We’re incredibly flexible about where, when and how you work: we don’t want anyone to be prevented from coming to work for Saltus as a result of the working pattern that they’re looking for. Ideally, you’d be able to be based out of our Whiteley office for the majority of each week, working the remainder of the week from home. We are passionate about championing flexible working for our people.
What benefits do I get when working for Saltus? You’ll get a salary of between £50-75,000pa, dependent on experience, alongside 28 days’ holiday (plus bank holidays), life assurance, income protection and a pension, alongside access to our flexible benefits platform. Just as importantly, you’ll get to experience our culture, which we really do live and breathe: ensuring that Saltus is a fantastic place to work for every single one of our 500+ people. We work hard, but we have an awful lot of fun along the way.
